So they’re going to have 50 different versions of U.S. Avengers #1, one for each state?

If they do like they did in the 1990s, and have three to six cover variants for each one (foil embossed and all that crap), I’m sure they’ll make a bundle, right?

In the long run, the whole schtick is irrelevant because they’ll just reboot it all a few years from now, and start from scratch.

What does a $9 minimum wage actually mean? It means that if you can produce $10 worth of value per hour, you can get a job. If you cannot, then you have to be unemployed.

No one pays $9 to get $8 worth of economic value.

Any minimum wage keeps people out of the workplace, preventing them from getting the skills they actually need to succeed.

Eliminating the minimum wage means that people new to the workforce can get jobs, develop relevant job skills, and develop resumes that can open future opportunities.

If we want more jobs for those who cannot currently get them, the only solution is to eliminate the minimum wage, and create new opportunities for personal economic development.

In a breaking development, Jill Stein took to the internet Sunday, to call on all Green Party volunteers to help kick start a recount in Pennsylvania. In her video she stated:

“It’s the only state in which the recount process has to be initiated by thousands of voters . . .”

Apparently, they need to find at least three volunteers per election district willing to submit an affidavit to their county board of elections requesting a recount. There are more than 9,000 precincts required to initiate the recount, and each person has to be certified by a notary! It’s a tremendous effort, and they are trying to beat each precinct deadline a few of which are today, on Monday!

Is World-Wide Satellite Broadband Coming Soon?

It seems as though Elon Musk (of SpaceX fame) is pushing for a new way to do satellite-based communications.

Instead of placing a few large satellites in geosynchronous orbit (22,300 miles up), he wants to put up lots — 800 to start, 4225 in the end — of small satellites (about 850 lbs apiece) in lower orbits (about 700-850 miles up).

The goal of this project is to offer gigabit-level bandwidth all over the Earth’s surface. Which is a damn sight better than the current wired services (I usually get somewhere around 54 Mbps on Comcast, using copper wire for the last mile).

Each end user will get a “low-profile user terminal that is easy to mount and operate on walls or roofs.”

Chances are that the “low-profile user terminal that is easy to mount and operate on walls or roofs” will use a standard electrical plug that connects to the outlets found in residential and commercial buildings . . .

And since adapters that allow you to connect those plugs to a car’s cigarette lighter or electronics jack, the “low-profile user terminal that is easy to mount and operate on walls or roofs” can just as easily be mounted on the roof of your RV or SUV. Or your everyday four-door sedan.

Mobile broadband that’s faster than what’s available over the wired services? Sounds like a decent deal to me.

Another aspect of this is that it could put the traditional satellite providers (Direct TV, Dish, HughesNet, etc.) out of business. Why would you bother with them when you can get YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Vudu or Vimeo anywhere in the world? And the cherry on top — you won’t have to pay extra for watching porn.

Now we’re waiting on Musk to get approval for this from the FCC and its international relative, the ITU (can’t have this project giving the Chinese a way around the Great Firewall, can we?) to sign off on it. Which means Musk will have to engage in some legalized bribery lobbying, because the Political Classholes simply can’t approve it without their palms being sufficiently greased in some manner.

Does Trump Arouse You?

Filed under: Dark Side, Fun, Humor, Politics — Tags: , , , , , , , , — mikewb1971 @ 12:59 AM (00:59)

No, Trump doesn’t arouse me in any way, but apparently he does get those who claim to hate and fear him a bit on the frisky side, as evidenced by this letter to Dan Savage’s Savage Love column —

I’m a longtime fan – reader and listener – and part of the 47 percent of white women who did NOT vote for Donald Trump. To say I’m disappointed, horrified, scared, and mad about the election is woefully insufficient. I donated $100 to Planned Parenthood this morning because I honestly felt like there was nothing else I could do. That being said, I wanted to share that I had one of the most weirdly charged, hottest, and sexiest orgasms. A little buzzed (dealing with those election results) and sad, my boyfriend and I turned to each other for consolation. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, we were fucking as Trump came on the TV to give his acceptance speech. As that orange blowhard spewed more bullshit about being our president, I rode my boyfriend’s big, beautiful dick until I came. It was the perfect way to say, “Fuck this. Now fuck me.” I encourage all your readers to fuck out the stress from this election. Yes, we should donate and volunteer and speak up and protest and vote and not give up hope, but we should also keep doing it and taking care of each other. Because love trumps hate, and fucking trumps . . . well, I’m not sure what fucking trumps. But it sure makes life better.

– Justifiably Unsettled Lass Intensely Emoting

And then Savage doubles down on the lust born from hate or fear of Trump, as demonstrated by “JULIE” —

It’s important to practice good self-care in the wake of a traumatic event – the election qualifies as a traumatic event – and going by the definition of self-care at GoodTherapy.org, fucking the living shit out of someone qualifies as self-care: “Actions that an individual might take in order to reach optimal physical and mental health . . . Self-care [includes] activities that an individual engages in to relax or attain emotional well-being, such as meditating, journaling, or visiting a counselor.”

They’re too polite over at GoodTherapy.org to include “fucking the shit out of someone” on their list of examples, JULIE, but what you did on election night – which just so happens to be the exact same thing I did on election night – certainly meets all the criteria.

And if anyone out there who did the same on election night – fucked the shit out of someone – is feeling the least bit guilty, please know that millions of Americans did the exact same thing after 9/11. We used a different term to describe all that post-9/11 fucking: “terror-sex,” which New York magazine defined as “urgent, unguarded, end-of-the-world coitus inspired by that day’s sudden jolt of uncertainty and fear.”

I want to thank you for writing, JULIE, and I want to second your recommendation: Sex, partnered or solo, makes life better – and people shouldn’t feel guilty about fucking someone else and / or fucking / jacking / dildo-ing themselves at this uncertain and fearful moment in our nation’s history. Yes, we must donate and volunteer and protest and vote, all while reminding ourselves daily that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. And we must commit to defending our friends, neighbors, and coworkers who are immigrants (documented or not), Muslims (American born, immigrants, or refugees), people of color, women seeking reproductive health care, trans men and women seeking safety, lesbian and gay men seeking to protect their families, and everyone and everything else Trump has threatened to harm, up to and including the planet we all live on.

But we must make time for joy and pleasure and laughter and friends and food and art and music and sex. During the darkest days of the HIV / AIDS epidemic, when Republicans and religious conservatives controlled the federal government and were doing everything in their power to harm the sick and dying, queers organized and protested and volunteered and mourned. We also made music and theater and art. We took care of each other, and we danced and loved and fucked. Embracing joy and art and sex in the face of fear and uncertainty made us feel better – it kept us sane – and it had the added benefit of driving our enemies crazy. They couldn’t understand how we could be anything but miserable, given the challenges we faced – their greed, their indifference, their bigotry – but we created and experienced joy despite their hatred and despite this awful disease. We turned to each other – we turned to our lovers and friends and sometimes strangers – and said, “Fuck them. Now fuck me.”

We didn’t eradicate HIV / AIDS, the disease that was sickening us then, but we fought it to a standstill and we may defeat it yet. The disease that now sickens our nation is different. We may never eradicate racism and sexism and hatred. But fight it we will. And don’t listen to anyone who tells you that music and dance and art and sex and joy are a distraction from the fight. They are a part of the fight.

So why aren’t there any blog posts from conservative or libertarians expounding on their fear or hate of Hillary Clinton making them horny?

Back Into Blogger, but for How Long?

Over a week ago (Tuesday, 1 November 2016, about 1:00 PM MST), I tried to log into Blogger from my Toshiba Satellite laptop (running Linux Mint 17 and Firefox) to post an article to the LPNM blog, and the Google login screen prompted me for my phone number for verification purposes.

So I put my cell number in and clicked “Submit.” A few seconds later, I received a code like this: “G-123456” (not the real code, obviously).

Then I typed in the verification code, but the screen for it would only allow me to imput the first four numbers: “G-1234.” Clicking “Submit” gave me an error message, as I also received when I tried “G12345” and “123456.” A few tries of that and I was locked out.

So I tried again, with my Dell desktop running MS Windows 7, and got the same web-based song and dance. This time, at the end of it, up popped a screen telling me that my account was locked for an alleged terms of service violation, but that was it – no word as to what that violation was. So I typed in my email address, along with a request for some enlightenment as to what I had done wong, and clicked “Appeal.”

In the same time frame, my Gmail account (another Google product) was also locked up. I was able to access that a few days later, and it seems that they were in the process of upgrading the Gmail software.

Just a few minutes ago (Friday, 11 Novemner 2016, 10:49 PM), I tried once more to access my Blogger account.

This time I was surprised that the admins actually let me in, after over a week of denying me access without telling me WHY they were denying me access.

(I realize that Google and its subsidiaries are in the private sector, and my use of them is subject to their rules. More on that below.)

This is what I found —

Here’s the full text of it —

The other 26 county affiliate blogs were presumably free from Terms of Service violations, and are thus unlocked (at present).

Still, Google (or Blogger) won’t tell me the specific nature of the alleged violations. Which is rather shitty of them — wouldn’t you want to know if you were violating someone’s rules for their property, and how exactly you were violating those rules?

Luckily, there’s nothing on the affected blogs that I don’t already have backed up, so losing them won’t really be a loss.

Still, it was a bit of work on my part to set them all up.

With that, I’ll be downloading the archives to my hard drive(s) here, and moving them to the LPNM’s WordPress install.

Fuck it, I like WordPress better anyway.

I publicly asked you what your qualifications are.

As for salary, that’s dependent on the experience, talents, etc., as well as Party’s finances.

Without seeing a resume or CV from you, the salary is ZERO.

As for the Party’s fundraising plans and fiscal status, I’m not at liberty to disclose that to anyone who isn’t a full dues-paying, pledge-signing member in good standing.

Michael Thompson 2:57pm

I do not discuss my professional qualifications over a social media site. How unprofessional of you to even ask. Never mind about the finances. I can find it on my own. It is public record.

OK, have a nice life then.

[LPNM] A Modest Proposal

Now that the LPNM[1] has apparently attained “major party” status for the second time[2], the LPNM will most likely be awash in those of all stripes who expect the Party and its members to toss the Non-Aggression Principle in the trash because, well, how else can we support the legislation that they advocate?

Not only that, but many of these people will insist on being LPNM candidates, party officers, what have you, because after all, no one truly understands how trashing the NAP will bring us to liberty in our lifetimes like they do.

I propose that while they might be very willing to delegate that initiation of force to the public sector, they probably don’t have the stomach to do it personally.

Thus I suggest that we offer them knives, or clubs, or whatever, and let them demonstrate that they do indeed personally have what it takes.

This scene from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008) comes to mind —

I have no intention of starting a civil war in the LP’s ranks (one could argue that one has been going on since 2006[3]), but let’s head this off before we end up like the Reform Party of 2000, from which I had read accounts of actual physical fist-fights on the business floor of their national convention.

Especially when I keep seeing articles that the entire county may be headed for a civil war itself. NOT the sort of thing that happened between 1861 and 1865, but more like The Troubles in Northern Ireland, with a rural vs. urban component to it for kicks.

In either case, we of principle aren’t going away. Nor will we voluntarily disarm ourselves.[4]

NOTES

  1. If there are any other state affiliates of the LPUSA facing similar circumstances, I have no problems with them adapting this proposal to their purposes.
  2. The LPNM briefly attained “major party status from 1999 to 2001 after Maurice McDonald ran for State Land Commissioner in 1998 and recieved about 9% of the total votes cast, which was equivalent to 5% of the votes cast in that year’s gubernatorial election.

Friday’s Bizarre Phone Call

Filed under: Fun, Humor, Life, Politics — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , — mikewb1971 @ 7:02 PM (19:02)

Friday afternoon (4 November 2016), I received a call from a Hillary Clinton supporter (calling from a private number) who complained about a robocall from the Gary Johnson campaign. The caller then proceeded to ramble on for 57 minutes about Gary being too stoned and narcissistic to be a good little Buddhist Democrat, that Gary was “stealing votes” from Hillzilla, along with side rants about Susana Martinez, Trump, the GOP in general, the Albuquerque Journal, and Ralph Nader (for “stealing votes” from Gore in 2000).

The caller also stated that Gary didn’t climb Mt. Everest as he said he did (and took pictures from the summit), that he was a lousy governor of New Mexico, didn’t do anything but say “no” to well-meaning “progressive” legislation that was “for the children,” that no one pays any attention to her “because I’m white,” that Susana Martinez was elected as Governor in 2010 solely on the strength of her last name, among other things.

I have the app “Automatic Call Recorder” installed on my LG K7, but it turns out that the app is the app equivalent of dogshit, as I discovered when I tried to copy the saved call from my phone to Facebook, WordPress or my laptop’s hard drive.
