Notes from Life, Etc.

  1. For what it’s worth, my Google account is still all partially locked up — it’s been a week now. I can read email, but haven’t tried sending any from it, so I’m using my Tutanola account. My Blogger account is also still locked up (that’s what started this mess in the first place), and i haven’t received any response to my query about it.
  2. I went to the Election Night Party – Governors Johnson & Weld 2016 at the Hotel Albuquerque –
    1. No buffet like 2012, only ordering from the menu. They did have three bars, a DJ and a dance floor in the party hall, though.
    2. Anyway, I talked with Blair Dunn, Burly Cain and Aaron Henry Diaz tonight — we have three prospective candidates for U.S. Congress : Blair Dunn for CD 1, David Clements for CD 2, and Michael Lucero for CD 3.
    3. Aaron wants to do a matanza (sp? — Mexican pig roast) sometime soon and talk about running candidates for local school boards.
    4. Burly was winding down from the campaign and said that he will be at the next CentCom meeting.
    5. Also, Weld gave a halfway decent speech — no “vouching” for Clinton, or any other of his nonsense that we saw during interviews and the CNN town halls. Nielson must have put a leash on him. Maybe Nielson didn’t want to see the stage rushed by a pissed-off crowd? For what it’s worth, a friend of Blair’s did yell “Benedict Arnold” once and was chased away

Then Gary gave his speech — basically, “thank you for all your effort and support.”

    6. I think those parts of the event were video streamed to Facebook, possibly YouTube.
    7. After the party officially ended, I chatted with Wes Benedict from the National HQ for a bit in the bar, told him about Woodruff. He said that Gary probably would have gotten just as many votes if he had run as a radical and ran loud and proud, but instead, Gary caved in a few times. He also said that he’s seen lots of LP candidates cave in like that.

[LPNM] A Modest Proposal

Now that the LPNM[1] has apparently attained “major party” status for the second time[2], the LPNM will most likely be awash in those of all stripes who expect the Party and its members to toss the Non-Aggression Principle in the trash because, well, how else can we support the legislation that they advocate?

Not only that, but many of these people will insist on being LPNM candidates, party officers, what have you, because after all, no one truly understands how trashing the NAP will bring us to liberty in our lifetimes like they do.

I propose that while they might be very willing to delegate that initiation of force to the public sector, they probably don’t have the stomach to do it personally.

Thus I suggest that we offer them knives, or clubs, or whatever, and let them demonstrate that they do indeed personally have what it takes.

This scene from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008) comes to mind —

I have no intention of starting a civil war in the LP’s ranks (one could argue that one has been going on since 2006[3]), but let’s head this off before we end up like the Reform Party of 2000, from which I had read accounts of actual physical fist-fights on the business floor of their national convention.

Especially when I keep seeing articles that the entire county may be headed for a civil war itself. NOT the sort of thing that happened between 1861 and 1865, but more like The Troubles in Northern Ireland, with a rural vs. urban component to it for kicks.

In either case, we of principle aren’t going away. Nor will we voluntarily disarm ourselves.[4]

NOTES

  1. If there are any other state affiliates of the LPUSA facing similar circumstances, I have no problems with them adapting this proposal to their purposes.
  2. The LPNM briefly attained “major party status from 1999 to 2001 after Maurice McDonald ran for State Land Commissioner in 1998 and recieved about 9% of the total votes cast, which was equivalent to 5% of the votes cast in that year’s gubernatorial election.
