“Christians” and Politics

My proposed sermons —

The Commandment of “Thou Shall Not Steal” doesn’t go away when you go into the voting booth on Election Day.

and

Let Jesus help you out in voting, i.e.,

“Let who is without sin cast the first stone,”
“Judge not lest ye be judged,”
“Treat others as you would have them treat you.”

What exactly did I mean by those?

On the first one, I meant that “Christians” who support tax-funded programs like public schools and Comrade President George XLIII’s “faith-based initiatives” aren’t true Christians at all, in that they have disavowed the Commandment of “Thou Shall Not Steal” when it comes to the public sector funding programs that they support.

Perhaps if they wanted to be honest, they should scratch out “Thou Shall Not Steal” and make it the Nine Commandments.

Then again, such “Christians” seem to have no problems supporting the killings of civilians involved with Trotskyist ultra-“left” adventurism such as Comrade George’s Iraq Occupation, so I guess we can scratch “Thou Shall Not Murder” as well. Make it the Eight Commandments.

When I say “Let Jesus help you out in voting,” I’m referring to the nitwits who form groups like the “Sodomy Police” in Colorado Springs, Colorado, harassing consenting adults for private behavior. Don’t you have anything better to do with your time?

Of course, these people will say that they’re trying to save the souls of the people they’re hassling from eternal damnation. Eternal damnation is, well, eternal. If the prospect of Eternity in Hell doesn’t dissuade them, why would sixty to ninety days in the county jail?

And of course, there’s the “left”-wingers who use Christianity as an excuse for maintaining and expanding the welfare state, citing the examples of Jesus caring for the poor as their precedent. What they’re forgetting is that Jesus did that on his own initiative, and wasn’t forced to do so by either the Jewish authorities or the Roman overseers of the time. Again, “Thou Shall Not Steal” goes down the drain.

And the “left”-wingers are just as guilty of supporting exceptions to “Thou Shall Not Murder,” as there are plenty of foreign interventions that they support.

What sort of Christians do I admire? Those that think along the lines of Doug Newman at The Fountain of Truth.
