“Let our pupil be taught that he does belong to himself, but that he is public property. He must be taught to amass wealth, but it must be only to increase his power of contributing to the wants and demands of the state. Education can be done effectually only by the interference and aid of the Legislature.”
— Benjamin Rush (1786)
I recently received a message from Dar Scott, forwarded by Richard Obergfell. Dar is a former LPNM officer, but still a member, last I heard. It seems that the State of New Mexico, in the person of Rep. Mary Helen Garcia from the Las Cruces area, is pushing for “standardized testing” of home-schooled children. The text of the message can be found at:

First, this will apply to families who have decided to register their home-schooled kids with the State. There is apparently an “underground movement” of unregistered home-schoolers out there that the State has no sway over — YET. I’m not under any false impressions that the State wouldn’t want to get these families under its thumb as well. While Dar told me that New Mexico’s reporting requirements aren’t too bad, the fact that they exist at all is entirely too onerous for some, hence the “undergrounders.”
I’d recommend calling Mary Helen Garcia both at her home number (505-526-6608) as well as her Roundhouse number (505-986-4435).
