[LPNM] Resolution Condemning Cuban Arrest of U.H. Hernandez and M.V. Visea

Given that the Libertarian Party of New Mexico exists to promote liberty together with the Libertarian Party of the United States and the Libertarian Parties of all the several states, and the International Libertarian movement;

And,

Given that the political climate in the United States and in other countries has become increasingly authoritarian;

Be it resolved that the Libertarian Party of New Mexico joins the Libertarian Party of Nevada and the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire by condemning the Communist government of Cuba for the political arrest and detention of Ubaldo Herrera Hernandez and Manuel Velasquez Visea that took place on February 2, 2017. These men were specifically targeted for their peaceful promotion of limited government and free markets. We call upon Libertarians and liberty-minded people in these United States and free people across the world to join us in condemning the immoral arrest and detention of individuals for exercising their natural and human rights. May tyrants be destroyed and liberty reign among all of the peoples throughout the world.

Resolved by the Central Committee of the Libertarian Party of New Mexico on Monday, February 20, 2017.

Ron Paul vs. David Horowitz

Current mood: cynical, pissed

Neo-con Bushevik David Horowitz has this annoying habit of taking pot-shots at libertarians. In one of his latest, he goes after Ron Paul – Ron Paul Is A Vicious Anti-Semite and Anti-American and Conservatives Need To Wash Their Hands of Him.

As for the assertation that Horowitz “calls out the Islamists,” I can do that, too – and I can do it without stumping for tyranny here in the States or overseas military actions and occupations.

Want to call out the Islamists without being a creep like Horowitz? Simple – invoke the Bill of Rights when they insist that the governing body incorporate the malum prohibitum aspects of sharia into the U.S. Code, state law, county or city ordinances.

Tell the Islamists, “NO, you can’t have that sort of law here in America. If you want to live by this sort of code voluntarily, feel free to do so. Feel free to try persuading others to file suit. But you do NOT get to insert this into American law. Deal with that.”

Quote of the Day for 25 September 2010

“I’ll tell you what I’d prefer our government’s foreign policy to be, assuming we need to have a State at all. My proposal is pretty simple: Swiss-style armed neutrality. That means no invasions, no military threats, no foreign aid, no “covert operations”, no military bases outside the country, no attempts to influence the internal affairs of foreign countries whatsoever.

“No one blows up bombs in the streets of Geneva. No one from Switzerland gets kidnaped in third world countries to protest the evils of Swiss foreign policy. Wherever they go, at worst, people think of the Swiss as boring – it is rare that anyone feels the need to buttonhole someone from Zurich or Lugano and tell them off for what their government does.

“The Swiss are not pacifists, though. They have a very strong militia for defense, and in times past when Europe was less peaceful, it would have been extremely costly for an attacker to invade them. Even if (in the case of particularly strong enemies) an invasion might have ultimately succeeded, it would have yielded very little of value at an astonishing expense.”

A Continent-Wide Switzerland?

Reading this week’s edition of The Libertarian Enterprise, I took notice of an resurrected article by long-time friend L. Neil Smith

What he’s proposing in in his reposted article Radically Decentralized Defense is nothing morethan a continent-wide version of the Swiss Confederation, commonly known as Switzerland.

I don’t say this to disparage his article, but to support it by showing that YES there IS historical precedent on hand for his idea. In fact, I wholeheartedly endorse it, and further note that a significant number of America’s Founders would have supported it, as well.

An addition, though — current (OK, government-sponsored) laser research is expanding to levels you’re only hinting at in this article. At present, they’re working on truck-mountable units capable of shooting down artillery shells and mortar rounds in flight [1]. Where I say “working on,” I don’t mean developing the technology, I mean getting ready for field deployment. Add to that the fact that they’ve already deployed laser units (again, mounted on a truck) for use in destroying IEDs from a distance [2].

Iraqi journalist hurls shoes at ‘dog’ Bush
1 day ago (14 December 2008)

BAGHDAD (AFP) — An Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes and an insult at George W. Bush, without hitting him, as the US president was shaking hands with the Iraqi premier at his Baghdad office on Sunday.

As the two leaders met in Nuri al-Maliki’s private office, a journalist sitting in the third row jumped up, shouting: “It is the farewell kiss, you dog,” and threw his shoes one after the other towards Bush.

Maliki made a protective gesture towards the US president, who ducked and was not hit.

The journalist, Muntazer al-Zaidi from Al-Baghdadia channel which broadcasts from Cairo, was frogmarched from the room by security staff, an AFP journalist said.

Soles of shoes are considered the ultimate insult in Arab culture. After Saddam Hussein’s statue was toppled in Baghdad in April 2003, many onlookers beat the statue’s face with their soles.

Some Iraqi journalists stood up to apologise.

The White House said Bush ducked to avoid the first shoe, while the second narrowly missed the president.

Bush said: “Thanks for apologising on behalf of the Iraqi people. It doesn’t bother me. If you want the facts, it was a size 10 shoe that he threw”.

Playing down the incident, the president later added: “I don’t know what the guy’s cause is… I didn’t feel the least bit threatened by it.”

Kind of reminds me of the time that Geraldo Rivera had some Aryan Airheads on the same stage as the Airheads’ opposition, and a brawl broke out between the opposing groups onstage. (See here for more.)

It’s also rather surprising that the Secret Service, or the Iraqi equivalent, didn’t slam the guy face-first into the ground.

Does Condi Need a Boyfriend?

Recently I was skimming the list of blogs located at the New Mexico Liberty site. At Brigette Russell’s Moralia site, I found a link to a Pravda article [1] that just has to be read – I was laughing so hard that I was in tears.

It seems that, according to Russia’s national blowhard, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, that Condeleeza Rice is making the comments she’s making about the situation between Russia and Georgia (not the American state, but the former Soviet satellite state) because she needs a boyfriend –

“Condoleezza Rice released a coarse anti-Russian statement. This is because she is a single woman who has no children. She loses her reason because of her late single status. Nature takes it all.

“Such women are very rough. They are all workaholics, public workaholics. They can be happy only when they are talked and written about everywhere: ‘Oh, Condoleezza, what a remarkable woman, what a charming Afro-American lady! How well she can play the piano and speak Russian! What a courageous, tough and strong female she is!’

“This is the only way to satisfy her needs of a female. She derives pleasure from it. If she has no man by her side at her age, he will never appear. Even if she had a whole selection of men to choose from she would stay single because her soul and heart have hardened. Like Napoleon, Genghis Khan, Tamerlane, or Alexander the Great of Macedon Ms. Rice needs to fight and release tough public statements in global scale. She needs to be on top of the world.

“Ms. Rice was always interested in Russia. Now she needs to prove that she does have a certain amount of knowledge about Russia. Her goal number one is to observe USA’s interest. If Russia rises, it means that the USA falls down. Europe has united, China is growing speedily and Russia possesses immense power in terms of fuel resources. The US administration cannot do anything about it.

“The USA experiences the crisis of ideological and moral values. Americans try to talk about positive family values, although the actual state of things is disastrous. That is why they need to protect themselves with such public personas as Condoleezza Rice who gains pleasure from political commotions.

“The civilized world needs to think about a decision when single politicians are not allowed to stay in power. This was a common practice in the Soviet political system. The matter of international relations is very subtle and exquisite. One single word or phrase may play an extremely important role in politics. This is not the place, where one can sublimate their personal sexual problems.

“Complex-prone women are especially dangerous. They are like malicious mothers-in-law, women that evoke hatred and irritation with everyone. Everybody tries to part with such women as soon as possible. A mother-in-law is better than a single and childless political persona, though.

“This is really scary. Ms. Rice’s personal complexes affect the entire field of international politics. This is an irritating factor for everyone, especially for the East and the Islamic world. When they look at her, they go mad.

“Condoleezza Rice needs a company of soldiers. She needs to be taken to barracks where she would be satisfied. On the other hand, she can hardly be satisfied because of her age. This is a complex. She needs to return to her university and teach students there. She could also deal with psychological analysis.

“The true reason of Ms. Rice’s attack against Russia is very simple. Condoleezza Rice is a very cruel, offended woman who lacks men’s attention. Releasing such stupid remarks gives her the feeling of being fulfilled. This is the only way for her to attract men’s attention,” Vladimir Zhirinovsky said.

Let’s see – the American armed forces are busy with the Iraq and Afghanistan Occupations, as well as the Hunt for Osama and the Forty Al-Qaeda, stomping out miscellaneous “terrorist” cells on behalf of various governments, and miscellaneous training and humanitarian missions in about a hundred-some countries. The LAST thing that America needs at this point is any military involvement in the Ossetia situation. It’s a good thing that Condi’s power is limited to holding press conferences and uttering sound bites for the cameras – otherwise, her bosses in Washington DC just might have turned to radioactive plasma by now, courtesy of the Strategic Rocket Forces.
