Back Into Blogger, but for How Long?

Over a week ago (Tuesday, 1 November 2016, about 1:00 PM MST), I tried to log into Blogger from my Toshiba Satellite laptop (running Linux Mint 17 and Firefox) to post an article to the LPNM blog, and the Google login screen prompted me for my phone number for verification purposes.

So I put my cell number in and clicked “Submit.” A few seconds later, I received a code like this: “G-123456” (not the real code, obviously).

Then I typed in the verification code, but the screen for it would only allow me to imput the first four numbers: “G-1234.” Clicking “Submit” gave me an error message, as I also received when I tried “G12345” and “123456.” A few tries of that and I was locked out.

So I tried again, with my Dell desktop running MS Windows 7, and got the same web-based song and dance. This time, at the end of it, up popped a screen telling me that my account was locked for an alleged terms of service violation, but that was it – no word as to what that violation was. So I typed in my email address, along with a request for some enlightenment as to what I had done wong, and clicked “Appeal.”

In the same time frame, my Gmail account (another Google product) was also locked up. I was able to access that a few days later, and it seems that they were in the process of upgrading the Gmail software.

Just a few minutes ago (Friday, 11 Novemner 2016, 10:49 PM), I tried once more to access my Blogger account.

This time I was surprised that the admins actually let me in, after over a week of denying me access without telling me WHY they were denying me access.

(I realize that Google and its subsidiaries are in the private sector, and my use of them is subject to their rules. More on that below.)

This is what I found —

Here’s the full text of it —

The other 26 county affiliate blogs were presumably free from Terms of Service violations, and are thus unlocked (at present).

Still, Google (or Blogger) won’t tell me the specific nature of the alleged violations. Which is rather shitty of them — wouldn’t you want to know if you were violating someone’s rules for their property, and how exactly you were violating those rules?

Luckily, there’s nothing on the affected blogs that I don’t already have backed up, so losing them won’t really be a loss.

Still, it was a bit of work on my part to set them all up.

With that, I’ll be downloading the archives to my hard drive(s) here, and moving them to the LPNM’s WordPress install.

Fuck it, I like WordPress better anyway.

No Chrome For Me

Way back when, say, around December, 2008, I downloaded and installed Google Chrome. At the time I first tried it, I was also having connectivity problems. Which, if you’re a Chrome user, is a big problem, because Chrome needs to connect to Google’s servers to actually, you know, function at all. When I got nowhere with it, I decided “that’s enough for me.”

Side note: This is a big reason I have no interest in buying a Chromebook, as the Chromebook also requires a connection to the Google servers. Sometimes I need to do things at home. And I prefer to store my files at home, where I know where they are — “store it on the cloud” is just a fancy way to say “trust ME with your files . . .”

Fast-forward seven years and change . . .

Today I was halfway across Albuquerque, and opened Chrome on my new phone (an LG K7) to check for Pizza 9 locations near me. I typed in “pizza9.com,” and instead of just taking me to that site, Chrome bounced me over to btnactive.net, then something else, finally ending up on pizzahut.com

Mind you, this is the FIRST TIME I’ve launched Chrome on this phone or any other device or system, since 2008.

And it’s also a brand-new phone — I purchased it on Friday at about 5:45 PM, and haven’t used it much.

So I installed Mozilla Firefox instead.

In a way, it’s sort of good that this happened, as about three hours later, I found out that my debit account had been hacked . . .

Never Been to Ephrata, PA, But . . .

After I finished my shift at the day job, I stopped by the nearest Circle K gas station / convenience store for a fountain drink — a “Polar Pop,” they call it.

It’s all of 0.95 in total, including GRT.

Imagine my surprise when the clerk tells me my debit / credit card was declined.

Anyway, I had a spare ∅1 note to cover it, but still . . .

So I get home and log into my Nusenda account. That’s when I discover that my card had been hacked, or cracked, or whatever.

Apparently, Nusenda locked out my account because some asswipe in Ephrata, Pennsylvania decided to help himself (herself?) to ∅90 worth of goodies at the local Wal-Mart, using my account to pay for it all.

I haven’t been to my old stomping grounds (about 50 miles east of Ephrata) in 21 years and change. When I did live in Pennsylvania, I never had a reason to go any part of Lancaster County. So I’m guessing that the perpetrator was just using some random card number obtained from the internet or whatever, which just happened to be mine.

May his / her genitals rot until his / her dying day.

So Where’s the SNOW?!

Current mood: annoyed

Since Friday, I’ve been hearing from various people that, not only is the snow coming, but that a blizzard is imminent, and “We’re gonna get it!”

So far, I haven’t seen a single snowflake in Albuquerque. True, some areas in the East Mountains have gotten some, but those areas are also at higher altitudes than Albuquerque.

All I’ve seen in town is the usual New Mexico winter weather — wind, clouds, and “cold” temperatures (it rarely gets below 20°F here).

This just reinforces what I’ve been thinking for years — forget the hairspray heads on TV with their Doppler radar and airport weather stations. The best weather report you’ll get is the one you see when you look outside through your front porch window in the morning.

Retail Work SUCKS

Current mood: annoyed, angry, bitter

I have to thank “obwaher” for posting the article Worst Season To Work In Retail, Sales Make People Crazy

I posted the following comment in response —

I work in retail, too, so I get this sort of garbage all the time. I don’t think that there’s a day
I spend at work that I don’t want to reach over the counter and kill at least one time.

I refuse to wear the company-issued name tag. When we had the little name labels on the
back of our time cards, I peeled that label off and put my time card in my pocket. Then
they sent out these new name tags, but they never gave me one. Not like I would’ve wore it
if they did. If these asshole customers want to address me on a first-name basis, then they
        can wear name tags, too.

The absolute worst people are the ones who tell you, “I’ve worked in retail, so I know you
can do this . . .” as they’re trying to scam you with a switched price tag, or trying to
return something that’s obviously been worn to Hell and back, or trying to get use an
       expired discount coupon, or . . . .

It’s true — there isn’t one day that goes by at Burlington Bullshit Factory where I don’t want to reach across the counter and just choke the living shit out of some asshole that’s trying to pull some stupid scam on me, then getting pissed at me when they figure out that I’m on to their piss-poor attempt at getting a freebie.

Sorry, you fucking moron, but that’s a piece of my paycheck you’re trying to scam away from me there. Try this shit with me when I’m off the property and off the clock and see what happens.

Then there’s the clowns who let their genetic-drift excuses for children run rampant all over the store, trashing the displays, pulling tags off of items, among other things. They open packages of candy so their issue can have a snack while they shop. They let their kids wander off, then expect the employees there to babysit and safeguard their kids from harm. Last time I checked, I didn’t agree to watch other people’s kids as part of my employment contract. The worst part of this aspect is that these “people” (a former LPNM member likes to refer to them as “basic life units.”) is that they’ll sit that screaming, restless kid on my register counter while they dump their full load of gangsta wear on the same counter, so I get to ring that shit up while dodging that kid.

There’s the people who expect me to take custody of their half-empty cup from Starbucks, McDonalds or whatever. Don’t they know how that shit leaks all over the trash can? I guess they don’t or that they just don’t care. I just tell them to throw it in the trash can immediately outside the store.

Spring 2009 Semester

Got my school schedule for the spring 2009 semester —

COURSE TITLE — CR — DAYS — TIMES — BLDG/ROOM –CAMPUS
PC UPGRADE/REPAIR — 3 — M W — 7:30- 9:50AM — N-0014 — MAIN
XHTML COMPLETE — 3 — M W — 11:00- 1:15PM — SB-0216 — MAIN
LINUX ESSENTIALS — 3 — M W — 2:00- 4:15PM — N-0114 — MAIN
IT ESSENTIALS I — 3 — M W — 5:30-7:45PM — N-0114 — MAIN

Granted, I was hoping to take the Advanced Laser Systems class, and maybe take Optics again, but I can’t do those four-days-a-week courses unless they’re in the mornings — I need to be done with them by 12 PM noon at the latest.

Since they posted the Advanced Laser class for 1:30 to 3:00 PM, and it’s a “M T W F” class (Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday) class, that’s not going to work for me — I need a new car, and a new computer, and I can’t work enough hours to bank up enough to get them while I’m in class four days a week.
