What’s to “Put Away” Here?

Current mood: annoyed

Over at New Mexico Liberty, Frank DuBois posted a link to an article in today’s American ThinkerNow Is the Time to Put Aside Childish Things.

Frank followed the link with the question Where do conservatives and libertarians fit?

I can’t speak for conservatives, as I gave up any claim to that label about twelve years ago after reading The Probability Broach and The Nagasaki Vector. Never mind the fact that a lot of them seem to think that I’m “one of them” just because I share their opposition to a great deal of The Barack’s policies. Never mind how they called me “anti-American” because I didn’t support Comrade President George XLIII’s Neverending War.

The gist of the article’s points at the end, as I read them — “Unless you’re a Republican, you’re wasting your time, dividing the movement and helping elect liberal Democrats.”

Where do libertarians fit into the author’s suggested strategy? Simple — “Join the GOP. Vote GOP. Give the GOP money. Where else are you gonna go?”

I’d like to know exactly how many regulations Republicans repealed while they had control of the White House and both houses of Congress from 2001 to 2007.

What ever happened to their Contract with America slogans about shutting down the Departments of Commerce, Energy, and Education?

What ever happened to Mr. “I’ve got a copy of the Tenth Amendment in my pocket” Bob Dole? Besides his 1996 shelving of the proposed repeal of the 1994 “assault weapon” ban so he could cozy up some to the hoplophobes? Doesn’t his deal doing TV spots for Viagra encourage sexual promiscuity?

I’m willing to work with Ron Paul Republicans, especially on economic issues.

I refuse to support any GOPer of the Bush / McCain / Specter / Hatch neo-con, regulating, taxing, big-spending mold. Nor will I support Drug Warriors, gay-bashers, marriage-definers, abortion-clinic blockaders, eco-fascists, or gun-banners.

When I see some Republicans actually worth supporting, I’ll chip in. Until then, I’m sticking with the Libertarian and Boston Tea Parties.

Actually, considering what I’m seeing internally in those organizations, I just might go non-partisan in May of this year — let’s see what happens in Alamogordo on the weekend of the 17th through the 19th.

But whatever happens at the Holiday Inn Express there, I’ll remain there on New Mexico Liberty and at the Campaign for Liberty. And I’m considering signing up with George Phillies’ Liberty for America
