  1. Maybe Re-Think the “Best” and “Worst” ?

    1. All that’s really going to happen by outlawing chicken fights is that the promoters of the fights will conduct them illegally. Duh. Drugs are illegal, so no one snorts coke, shoots heroin, does meth or smokes pot, right? Look at what a great job making something illegal (alcohol) did of putting Al Capone out of business.
    2. As for arming the APS cops, when was the last time you heard of a mass killing such as occurred at Columbine or Virginia Tech happening at a private school? When was the last time a homeschooled kid killed his parents or siblings?
    3. Proponents of the smoking ban confuse privately-owned businesses such as restaurants and bars with “public spaces.” Truth is, those businesses are just as much “public spaces” as your bedroom. No one puts a gun to your head and forces you through their front doors.
    4. All the minimum wage scam does is put people out of work — if you’re an underskilled teenager and no one wants to hire you for 5.15 an hour, why would they hire you for 6.50 an hour? What will you say to the people who work second jobs for some extra money, and can’t necessarily land a spot that pays above 6.50 an hour? “Tough shit — deal with it” ?
    5. Are the Rail Runner and SunTran EVER supposed to break even? How much will the city and state have to subsidize these boondoggles? How much will prices go up as a result of higher taxes to pay for these?
    6. Goodbye and good riddance to St. Pete (Domenici) — one less socialist in government is a good thing.
    7. Supporters of public campaign financing need to be aware that they’re establishing a potential for black and hispanic voters to be taxed to support the Ku Klux Kandidate. Maybe other Alibi readers are OK with that, but there’s no way in Hell that I’ll sign off on that.
