And he’s too stiffnecked stubborn to take the pardons both South Dakota and New Mexico have said they would give him if he only asked. He insists on fighting in court to clear his record, no matter what the outcome.

New Mexico cannot give him a pardon for a South Dakota conviction, and to my knowledge NM has not offered Russell any type of pardon. In fact, the last I heard Gary Johnson had told Means supporters he could not offer Russell a pardon.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Johnson offered to certify Means as being able to run for political office. Not the same, but “close enough for government work.” Russell properly told him to stick it, too.

Speaking as someone who asked him why he didn’t support “Vermont” carry and didn’t pardon dope-smokers:

For all the notoriety he’s gotten on the drug issue, Johnson is pretty much a fair-weather “libertarian.” (As in he gets a kick out of it when the Democrats and GOP Drug Warriors call him one – that’s the extent of Johnson’s libertarian tendencies.) Not as bad as Bill Owens . . . .

For those wanting a list of Johnson’s offenses for the state, I’ll have to put it together and post it later.
